However, English Eizen hams his skits 99% of the time, which instantly makes him the best out of the cast.
English VA makes spear girl a slightly better character for me. I loathe spear girl's Japanese voice (if I have to hear "Shakuchimessen~!" one more time.), so anything other than that is okay.
Also, her Japanese incantation of Embrace End makes me feel weird inside. Japanese Magilou has a more complex nuances in her voices befitting her character. English Magilou sounds hyper and kiddy-ish, making her a walking meme (which isn't necessarily a bad thing per se). I always cut off his in-battle dialogue in the final boss fight with Rokurou's "KILLING FLASSSSSHHH!!!", because it's just that horrible. Some of his dialogues are good, but some just reeks of '90s kid show. She's very good at the more emotional and impactful scenes though. Doesn't help that her early-to-mid game skit dialogues are boring as hell. I know she's supposed to be brooding, but the voices are too low and flat, which makes me wonder if it's the fault of her voice actress or the equipment they used to record it. Unfortunately, Velvet's English voice is rather bad in skits, particularly the early to mid game ones. Case in point, her scream when using Discord they both sound almost identical. English VA imitated the tone of the Japanese VA very well, so there's little to no difference in personality for me. A certain tree kid is extremely grating, which is sad because I love the character in Japanese, very very heartwrenching.
Other notable English voices: samurai bro's jockbro dialogues are awesome. For Laphicet, the English voice suffers from inconsistency. I'd say that I like the English voices of Eizen, Rokurou, and spear girl. I played the Japanese version before English, so I was biased against/for some voices. Mikleo's casual snark with his unimpressed tones are great, like actual brothers, and everything after that gets better and better (except Alisha's).įor Berseria, it's a mixed bag. Played it until Ladylake Aqueduct and they bored me to death, changed the voice to English for shits and giggles then suddenly their interactions really shine. I'm with you that Zestiria's Japanese VA doesn't do it for me.
